The Cessna Citation Ultra entered service in 1994 as the penultimate expression of the original Citation 500 family, bringing more powerful engines, modern Honeywell Primus 1000 avionics, and an extended range of 1,640 nm to the well-proven Citation II airframe. Manufactured in Wichita, Kansas, the Ultra upgraded the powerplant to Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D-5D engines producing 2,900 lbf each, a meaningful 16% thrust increase over the Citation II. The result was a noticeably improved climb rate, higher cruise speed (426 KTAS), and extended range that opened new non-stop routing options.

Why charter it

The case for the Citation Ultra.

Heritage on the ramp

As a Cessna product the Citation Ultra brings a respected name and a worldwide support network, reassurance that matters as much to charter clients as the cabin itself. Decades of service have wrung the surprises out of the design. Choosing it is choosing a known, trusted quantity.

Something only the trade knows

The part enthusiasts single out: The Ultra sharpened the straight-wing Citation with more thrust and EFIS glass, giving it the hot-and-high climb that made it a mountain-airport regular. That character is part of what you are chartering, not just a cabin.

Runway access that saves miles

The Citation Ultra is happy on short and secondary runways, so a charter routes into the airfield nearest the meeting, the villa or the resort rather than the nearest airline gateway. That flexibility matters most where mountains, islands or short strips rule out bigger jets. Access, quietly, is one of the strongest reasons clients pick the type.

Quick where it counts

The Citation Ultra cruises around 426 knots near Mach 0.74, and on a busy light jet charter that pace routinely saves an hour or more against slower types, time returned at both ends of the day. High cruise also lets the crew climb above weather and airline traffic for a smoother ride. Speed is the one luxury nobody can refund once a day is spent, and the type protects it.

Efficient by design

On value the Citation Ultra makes a strong case, turning modest operating costs into a lower hourly rate than clients expect for this much aircraft. Empty-leg and off-peak availability can drop the price further when the diary allows. Pound for pound, the type is hard to argue with on a charter budget.

A cabin built around the passenger

Cabin comfort is where the Citation Ultra earns its keep on charter, offering up to 8 seats, 59 cubic feet of baggage and the flexibility to lay the interior out around the trip rather than the other way round. A flat, quiet floor measuring 4 ft 11 in wide by 14 ft 5 in long means you can work, meet or sleep without the compromises of a scheduled cabin. It is the sort of space that turns a long day into a productive one.

The honest view

Where the Citation Ultra asks a compromise on charter:

A design with proven, not brand-new, roots

The Citation Ultra is a mature, thoroughly sorted design rather than the newest sheet of metal, which is a strength for reliability but means the very latest cabin gadgetry may sit a generation back. For charter clients who value dependability over novelty that is rarely a real loss.

If outright top speed or the newest cabin technology is your single priority, a more recent design may edge it, yet for most travellers the Citation Ultra balance of comfort, capability and value is the more meaningful advantage on the day.

As alternatives to the Citation Ultra, it is worth weighing the Citation II and the Citation Bravo, both able aircraft in the same bracket. Broadly the Citation II offers the newer cabin, while the Citation Ultra has the stronger short-field manners, so the right pick comes down to your exact route, party and budget, which our advisors are glad to lay out side by side.

In short, few aircraft do short-haul and regional charter as gracefully as the Citation Ultra, and where it is the right tool we place it on fully vetted, certified partners at a fixed all-in price, with an answer back inside 30 minutes.

Citation Ultra, your questions answered

How much does it cost to charter the Cessna Citation Ultra?+
Charter pricing for the Cessna Citation Ultra typically runs from around EUR 2,500 to 4,000 per flight hour, with the final figure shaped by your routing, dates, aircraft positioning and ground time. As a light jet it sits in the corresponding bracket, and in our experience arranging Cessna Citation Ultra charters a well-timed one-way or off-peak booking is often far more competitive than clients expect. Share your route and we return a firm, all-in price within 30 minutes.
What is the range of the Cessna Citation Ultra, and which routes can it fly nonstop?+
The Cessna Citation Ultra has a range of roughly 1,640 nautical miles (3,037 km), enough to fly London to Athens, nonstop without a fuel stop. In real operations we plan a little conservatively, since headwinds and a full cabin trim usable range, but on the sectors our clients fly most the Cessna Citation Ultra reliably turns a two-stop itinerary into a single, seamless hop.
How many passengers can the Cessna Citation Ultra carry?+
The Cessna Citation Ultra seats up to 8 guests. For longer flights we usually suggest booking a seat or two below the maximum, which frees space to spread out, work and sleep, and we configure every cabin to the party, whether that is a family, a board or a couple who simply want the whole aircraft to themselves.
How fast is the Cessna Citation Ultra, and how long do typical flights take?+
The Cessna Citation Ultra cruises at about 426 knots (789 km/h), around Mach 0.74. In practice that is roughly 1h 34m over 1,000 km and about 5h 22m over 4,000 km. Speed is where this aircraft quietly earns its keep, routinely saving our clients an hour or more against slower types, time handed back at either end of the day.
What is the cabin of the Cessna Citation Ultra like?+
Step aboard the Cessna Citation Ultra and the first impression is space and quiet: roughly 4 ft 10 in of headroom, a cabin pressurised and insulated so conversation stays easy and engine noise fades into the background. We find guests consistently step off a Cessna Citation Ultra flight noticeably fresher than they would from a comparable commercial trip.
How much luggage can the Cessna Citation Ultra carry?+
The Cessna Citation Ultra offers about 59 cubic feet of baggage volume, comfortably around 11 large suitcases plus soft bags, and in our experience it swallows skis, golf clubs and a pram without drama. We confirm the exact hold capacity for your specific aircraft and party at the time of booking.
Which airports can the Cessna Citation Ultra use?+
As a light jet, the Cessna Citation Ultra can reach a very wide spread of airports, including shorter, more convenient runways closer to your final destination than the large hubs. We check runway length, altitude and slot availability for every departure and arrival so the aircraft lands as near to where you are going as possible.
On which frequent routes is the Cessna Citation Ultra chartered?+
The Cessna Citation Ultra is chartered on a wide spread of city pairs. Popular capital-to-capital routes well within its 1,640 nm reach include Amsterdam to Prague, Amsterdam to Bratislava, Athens to Lisbon and Athens to Dublin. We fly it on hundreds of other sectors too, so tell us your route and we will confirm the aircraft and a firm all-in price.
How does the Cessna Citation Ultra compare to other light jets?+
Against other light jets such as the Citation II and the Citation Bravo, the Cessna Citation Ultra stands out for its balance of range, cabin comfort and real-world reliability. There is rarely a single best jet, only the best jet for a given route and party, and our advisors are happy to lay the options side by side so you can choose on the facts.
Is the Cessna Citation Ultra a good choice for short-haul and regional flights?+
Absolutely. The Cessna Citation Ultra is purpose-made for short-haul and regional flying of up to around 1,640 nautical miles, slipping into smaller, closer airfields and keeping costs efficient. For longer journeys we would match you to a larger, longer-range jet.
What engines power the Cessna Citation Ultra, and how reliable is it?+
The Cessna Citation Ultra is powered by 2× Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D-5D (2,900 lbf each). It runs the Honeywell Primus 1000 (dual EFIS) avionics suite. It is a mature, well-supported design, and reliability is exactly why we place clients on it, because the smoothest charter is the one that departs on time and arrives without a second thought.
Can I bring my pets on board the Cessna Citation Ultra?+
Yes. Pets fly in the cabin beside you on the Cessna Citation Ultra, never in a hold, and in our experience this is one of the main reasons families choose private in the first place. We brief you well ahead on microchip, vaccination and paperwork for your specific route so boarding is effortless.
At what altitude does the Cessna Citation Ultra cruise, and why does that matter?+
The Cessna Citation Ultra cruises as high as 45,000 feet. Flying above most weather and commercial traffic means a smoother, quieter ride and more direct routings, and a lower effective cabin altitude is a large part of why guests arrive feeling rested rather than drained.
Is there a more affordable way to charter the Cessna Citation Ultra?+
Often, yes. Empty-leg and one-way pricing on the Cessna Citation Ultra can be a fraction of a standard round trip when your dates are flexible, and off-peak departures help too. We watch live availability and flag genuine light jet opportunities the moment they appear.
